      South Korea will fully open the risk assessment report of harmful substances in foods
        November 10, according to Korean media reports, to ensure its policy transparency, coherence and credibility, lay a scientific and predictable safety management foundation,the Korea Food and Drug Safety Agency (MFDS) will fully open food-related risk assessment Report, and will continue to implement re-evaluation on non-intentionally harmful substances in the 64 kinds of food,taking five years as a cycle.

The Korea Food and Drug Administration has conducted a risk assessment of 226 harmful substances (more than 400% of the national intake of food) from the point of view of actual dietary intake and the latest standard of toxicity.

 Public programs: a.In 2016,open 110 species (6 kinds of heavy metals, 8 kinds of mycotoxins, production and processing of cooking produced 50 kinds of harmful substances, 25 kinds of pesticides, 16 kinds of sweeteners, 5 kinds of microorganisms); b. In 2017,open public dioxin and PCBs and other 49 species; c.In 2018 open 20 kinds of Staphylococcus aureus; d.In 2019 open 21  kinds of products including melamine; e.In 2020 open 26 kinds ,such as lead.

 1.Open assessment report on 110 substances (including 6 heavy metals, 8 mycotoxins, 50 harmful substances produced during processing and cooking, 25 pesticides, 16 sweeteners and 5 micro - organisms) in 2016.

(1)Heavy metals(6kings),mycotoxins (8kinds)from natural environment, and harmful substances (50kinds) and non intentional harmful substances(64 kinds) produced during the cooking and processing.It is necessary to monitor the changes of national Food intake way in.It will be 5-year cycle for reassessing the Hazard levels.

2) In the past, risk assessment was used to be centered on chemical risk factors such as heavy metals, and the risk assessment of biological risk factors (bacteria, viruses, protozoa, etc.) will be strengthened later.

3) South Korea MFDS risk assessment information: 64 kinds of non-intentional harmful substances are all out of the security level.
       A) The risk assessment of lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, tin and other heavy metals showed a safe level in all age groups, lead exposure compared with 2010 has reduce 40%, and cadmium intake has increased,which will strengthen monitoring;

B) evaluation of eight mycotoxins, including deoxynivalenol, total aflatoxins (B1 and M1), ochratoxin A, zearalenone, fumonisin and patulin, shows that it is also at a safe level in all age groups.Compared to Europe,60% of total aflatoxin and aflatoxin B1 are safe.But continuous monitoring is still required for manufacturing flow and storage,to ensure not be higher than exposure levels.

C) Assessment of 50 hazardous substances such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (9 species) and biogenic amines (8 species) generated during the manufacturing, processing and cooking process also showed they are at a safe level in all ages. Among them, acrylamide and furan are a safe level compared with Europe and other foreign, but also need to reach reduction and less exposure through the manufacturing process and the cooking stage.

2. Since the first half of 2017, Korea will also open health functional food certification of raw materials, including the safety of the scientific basis of functional information, including the relevant details.

Korea MFDS plans to continue the implementation of 5-year cycle of re-assessment to ensure that food harmful substances in the exposure will not change due to changes in national diet lifestyle.
